zkanji v0.715 released!

This one started out as a bugfix release, because right after releasing v0.71 I noticed some really annoying bugs. Then I made newer and newer changes and finally decided to make this into a real release with new features.

I won’t be making screenshots this time because it takes time, but here is a short list of the most important additions:

  1. Finally a setup program! This is the first and it works on my machine both as admin and as a simple user – if you allow the <unknown> publisher to install stuff on your computer. I might do something about it in some future version. I can’t guarantee that this setup will be perfect for everyone on every system. If it doesn’t work for you, grab the ZIP version. Also if you need zkanji to stay portable get the zip version.
  2. The automatic update downloads the newer version and installs it. This doesn’t break portability, in case you’ve installed this version from the ZIP package.
  3. Better Windows 7 integration by allowing the program to minimize normally and populating the taskbar button’s menu.
  4. Remade the kana test and added a kana writing test for beginner students. The first version of the kana test was something I made in an hour or maybe less, and it’s clearly visible on it. Hopefully everyone will like this new one much better.
  5. Added character combinations to type しぇ, じぇ, ちぇ, ファ, フィ, フェ, フォ in kanji/kana edit boxes. For example typing ‘fa’ generates ファ. Small kana can be typed with writing an ‘l’ or an ‘x’ in front of the syllable. Previously only ‘x’ worked.
  6. Bug fixes for many serious looking access violations, and also bug fixes for other stuff. For example there was a bug in the word importer to the long-term study list. If a word was ‘kana only’ (that is, usually not written with kanji), then although the written form was unchecked, it was still added to the long-term study list. This is just an example, there are several other fixes you didn’t even know that you needed them.

Please send me your bug reports as usual! This is a lie. I usually don’t get reports, even for bugs that must appear a lot, but I’m not sending in bug reports actively for others either, so I have no right to complain… Anyway a big thank you for everyone who did send me bug reports even once!

    Obrigado. Nelson Romano Neto

I’m sorry, but you will have to get used to the single window interface. The individual windows can’t be brought back.

Wery welcome release. Wasn’t able to transfer words/study data from v0.593 to v0.7, but with current one all data seems to be compatible and works fine again.

I don’t know what could have been broken. Not because zkanji had no bugs but because I have too many candidates. 😀
