zkanji v0.717 released – with bug fixes

As some users noticed, there was a bug that appeared in the form of an access violation during testing with the long-term study. This could prevent anyone from using the test, so I took this as a critical problem and released early. The dictionary hasn’t been updated, so if you don’t want to or can’t download big files too often,  get the “Manual update package” from the zkanji website.

If you have v0.715 I would appreciate it if you tried the built in updater instead, because this is the first time zkanji has such a feature.  I can only test the updater on my own computer, and if there’s a problem with it, I would like to fix it as soon as possible. Thank you for your help. (Updating requires admin rights.)

Someone reported that his firewall didn’t allow the setup to run but otherwise it seems to be fine. Thanks for telling!

It became very hard to manage both interfaces, so I had to get rid of the individual windows.

It will be possible to translate zkanji into other languages, but it will take a while because it’s a lot of work. Don’t expect it soon.

P.S. interesting how well G can translate Portuguese to English. 🙂

I am using 0.717 version and still having access violation message when opening the program, “Access violation at address 0059F689 in module ‘zkanji.exe’. Read of address 0000000C”

Please write me an e-mail, it is difficult to help in comments. I need to know a bit more, because this is a generic windows error message. For example your windows version, does the program always give that message, anything you can think of.

    Sorry for my late reply,
OS: Win XP SP3, japanese version and japanese GUI
I was able to use zkanji before, but lately this message would come up whenever I run the programme, I tried uninstalling it normally and reinstalling it and it keeps not working. I tried uninstalling it using uninstall program and reinstalling it, and still not working.
I am currently using the portable version of zkanji ver0.593. But I need some of the 0.717`s functionality for my studies.

I have a few possible suspects for the error. If you haven’t done this yet, install to a different folder and don’t copy your data files. (In case you have done this, I’m out of ideas for now. The problem must be some conflict with your system.) If that worked, try updating to v0.7 first and only update to v0.717 if that worked. (There were some changes in the data format in that version.) It is also possible that the zkanji.ini file from your version is not compatible with the new one. Rename it to some temporary name and see what happens.
Please comment again if any of these worked because it is good to know what causes such error.
