zkanji Test 3

August 9, 2017

I have released the next test version which mostly fixes the long-term study test and normal word tests. You can get it here. As with the previous version, you need the original first, and overwrite the executable with the latest one.

I didn’t think that the program still has this many critical bugs! It seems the study part of zkanji was completely unusable with lots of crashes and data corruption. This release is meant to fix these, and also to make studying a bit easier with the keyboard.

Once again, I need help to find more issues in zkanji. Unfortunately I don’t have as much time on it as I had originally with the old versions. I was spending almost all my time on this new release, but I can’t keep that up. Without help the next version will probably be only done in 1-2 months time. But don’t worry, I have spent over 2 years to write this new one, so I’m not going to give up now.

Getting error about some .dll files not found.

In case you don’t follow the instructions written on the releases page: “The binary release doesn’t contain the data files, just the executable. Get the first release first and unzip it somewhere. When it’s done, overwrite its executable with the one in this release.”

If you did that, you might have to install the “Visual Studio 2015 Runtime” separately. Just search for it online. In this case I’d like to hear about it since that means I don’t include important files in the package.

Forgive me if I am somewhat offtopic ^_^’
This is how my Zkanji color scheme looks like: —> https://i.imgur.com/89MLqEN.png
I was wondering, it would be possible maybe in the future to give users control over the Window Frame color and Scroll Bars color? 🙂
Or maybe just a default dark gray variation of them all, would blend much better with dark color themes like mine above 🙂

    Here are some suggestions:

    1. In 2020, twenty new kanji used as parts of names of prefectures will be added to the Kyôiku-Kanji list: 茨 (Ibaraki), 媛 (Ehime), 岡 (Shizuoka, Okayama and Fukuoka), 潟 (Niigata), 岐 (Gifu), 熊 (Kumamoto), 香 (Kagawa), 佐 (Saga), 埼 (Saitama), 崎 (Nagasaki and Miyazaki), 滋 (Shiga), 鹿 (Kagoshima), 縄 (Okinawa), 井 (Fukui), 沖 (Okinawa), 栃 (Tochigi), 奈 (Kanagawa and Nara), 梨 (Yamanashi), 阪 (Osaka), 阜 (Gifu).

    2. The stroke-order-diagram animations should be able to play in an endless loop.
    3. One should also see animated diagrams of kana signs.
    4. It should be possible to save the diagrams as .jpeg pictures.
    5. A list of godan verbs in -iru/-eru.

      Hi,

      1. These kanji are all included in the database used by the program. I’m not the one managing the data, but I believe the group handling it will update it as necessary. I’m not related to them.

I plan to do 2, and 3 is possible in the kana practice already. Is there anything to do with the 4th? You can press the print-screen button and take screenshots in windows of any program.

      5. Can you give me examples what you mean?

        3. It should be possible to see kana diagrams without having to make a practice. They should be available like the kanji diagrams.
        4. It should be possible to save pictures of character groups. For example, manually saving pictures of 1,006 (or soon 1,026) kyôiku kanji or 92 kana (46 hiragana + 46 katakana) is very time-consuming and strenuous.
        5. Ichidan verbs end in -iru or -eru, but there are also some godan verbs verbs with this endings, and there are also “homophone verbs” that can be ichidan AND godan (e.g. iru ichidan: 居る to be [animated] ; godan: 炒る to boil down, to roast, 入る to go in, 要る to need) and eru (ichidan: 得 る to get, to obtain; godan: 彫る to carve, 選る to choose, 啁る to ridicule). So it would be nice to have a list of the godan verbs ending in -iru and -eru.

The procedure entry point cound not be located ?toLower@QString@@QGBE?AV1@XZ in the dynamic link library. This is my problem… Do you have any solution?

(I’ll assume you correctly followed the instructions in the Github releases page.) I don’t know the cause of your problem, but my guess is that since I switched to Qt 5.9.1, the DLLs included in the first release stopped working. You could try getting the new Qt DLLs from somewhere.

I’ll look it somewhere, I inform you any news about it, thanks… 😀

Thanks for all your work. I’ve been using your program for 4+ years and it has become a very important tool for my kanji study routines. I literally use it every day, and it has been a big help for my preparation for the 漢字検定試験. Really looking forward for your next iterance of the application, again thank you so much 🙂
